There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
