There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
